Minority Business Enterprise
The Northwest Minority Business Council (NMBC) provides certification for minority-owned businesses located in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Alaska.
Our certification gives minority-owned businesses greater access to our programs including access to corporate and government agency buyers, training, networking, scholarships to world-renowned business schools and much more.
Listed below are basic screening questions an applicant should consider prior to completing the application for Minority Business Certification.
Application Screening Questions:
1. Are you a minority owned business?
You must fall into one of the following categories: African-American, Hispanic American, Native American, Asian-Pacific American or Asian-Indian American. You may obtain further clarification regarding qualifying ethnicities using the MBE Certification Criteria & Checklist.
2. Are you a US Citizen?
Green card holders/resident aliens are not eligible for certification.
3. Do you have at least 51% ownership in the company?
This includes buyout rights and profit sharing.
4. Is your business headquartered in one of the following States?
Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, or Alaska
Answering NO to any of the above listed questions will not qualify you as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) by the NMBC.
Groups not certified by the NMSDC, but not limited to the list, are listed below
- Iberian Peninsula (Spain, Portugal)
- Asia Minor Region (Peninsula between the Black Sea and Mediterranean)
- Persian Gulf (Iran, Iraq,Saudi Arabia etc.)
- Europe
- Northern Africa (Egypt,Libya,Morocco,Algeria, Tunisia etc.)
- American Indians not recognized by the Federal Government and State government.
